[Mondrian] Mondrian 4, Pentaho 6 CE, Saiko

Pentaho is doing a fine job of maintaining Mondrian 3, but the changes are
just refinements and bug fixes, nothing radical.

There are quite a few companies investing in OLAP on Hadoop and I think
they would be interested in developing Mondrian if it had an Apache
license, a more open governance model, and the opportunity for more radical
change.

On the subject of governance. Over the last couple of weeks I've been
trying to get olap4j functioning as a community again. This means going
through the backlog of pull requests and committing the ones that are
ready. It means making releases, including source code and javadoc, of
olap4j and olap4j-xmlaserver, on Maven Central. Because that's what people
expect these days.

And it's working. There's been a surge in interest on the olap4j-devel
mailing list, and in github, and pull requests are coming in with
improvements people have been making to the XMLA server.

I next plan to get an olap4j 2.0 release out, so that people can access the
entities and attributes added to recent versions of XML/A. That includes
Mondrian features such as measure groups and attribute hierarchies.

I'll be asking to make a release of Mondrian 4 -- off of a side branch,
with a version number like 4.6.0-olap4j2 -- so that olap4j has a reference
implementation to work against.
