Sounds like a bug. Please log a jira case. It's up to you whether you fix it now.

Somewhat related. I'd love properties like case-sensitivity to be specified in the schema. (I.e. in the schema.xml file.) It might even make sense for a particular connection to override the setting. We'd still read from properties, but only if the connection or schema doesn't specify it. That would make these things easier to test, and we'd stop using slow lookups into a Properties object.
