[Mondrian] Countdown to mondrian 3.0

The countdown clock has ticked. Last night I released the
mondrian-3.0.0.10550. I am calling this a milestone release, not a release
candidate, because it is feature-complete but there are still quite a few
bugs we'd like to fix.

The first release slipped a couple of weeks, but we are still on schedule
for late Feb/early March production, in sync with Pentaho 1.7.0.

Mondrian release 3.0 is getting close. This release rollout is going to be a
bit longer than usual, because we are synchronizing it with with Pentaho
release 1.7. But it will start with a release candidate this week, and be
followed by further release candidates over the next month or so.
Here's the approximate timeline.
Now. We have implemented all of the promised major features for mondrian-3.0
(see the
<http://mondrian.pentaho.org/documentation/roadmap.php#Release_3.0>
roadmap): improvements to shared dimensions and virtual cubes, an olap4j
driver, a lot of new scalar functions, aggregate roles, and JNDI in
connection strings. We have fixed a lot of bugs too.
This week. Expect to see the first release candidate of mondrian-3.0.
Over the following month or so. We intend to fix some of the backlog of bugs
that has built up since our last release. Bugs & feature requests we are
going to fix are assigned to the 'MustFixNextRelease' group, and bug and
feature requests we would like to fix are given priorities > 5. The bug list
is at the bottom of this email.
Late February or early March. mondrian-3.0 is released: the first release of
mondrian to feature an olap4j API.
What you can do. If you are a committer, fix bugs! If you have written an
application that uses mondrian, get ready download the release candidate and
see whether your application still works OK. The big new feature this
release is olap4j API, so give that a try. The earlier you log bugs the
sooner we can get a high-quality release out.
